Christmas getaway ideas for couples, friends, families or solo travel

Christmas might be a time to spend with your loved ones - but who says you have to spend it with them here in Singapore? Escape the maddening crowds that throng the city during the festive season with a short trip to a nearby country. Have a look at our list: we've got a locale for each type of traveller.

   1. With your partner

You don't have to travel all the way up to Europe for a storybook white Christmas. Asia is full of beautiful places for you to frolic in the snow. Japan is well known for its winter sports and steamy hot springs in the wintertime, which tend to be crowded with visitors - but the secluded Furano Valley is a hidden gem located conveniently in Hokkaido. It offers an impressive selection of runs for skiers of various levels and has numerous hot springs to choose from. There are lots of other activities there as well, such as hot air balloon rides and an igloo bar for you to retreat to after a long day of adventuring.

         2. With your bros

Who says that Christmas has to be all about quiet nights in? Live it up with your squad on the picture-perfect isle of Phú Quốc in Vietnam. Unlike its more raucous neighbours like Phuket, Phú Quốc offers lots of the same entertainment - night markets, outdoor activities and bars — albeit in a less touristic atmosphere.

While you're there, don't forget to check out the newly opened INK 360 bar in the sparkling new Intercontinental Phú Quốc. It's a gorgeous sky bar styled after the Kraken with panoramic views of the ocean. Behind the bar, master mixologists serve up a mind-boggling list of tasty tipples as well.

             3. With your family

If the last family trip you remember having was back when you were still in primary school, perhaps it's time to treat your parents to another adventure. Treat them on a holiday to the serene West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site tucked away in China's coastal province of Zhejiang.

West Lake stretches over six square kilometres of unspoiled beauty, with serene pagodas, temples and gardens peppering the lake's grounds. In the wintertime, snow covers the lake, adding to the meditative atmosphere of the gardens. December is an especially beautiful time to visit when the gorgeous plum flowers have blossomed and are on full display.

                 4. By yourself

The Christmas season also marks the end of another year. It's a good time to slow down, pause, and reflect on how everything's been going so far. Disconnecting from the city is one of the best ways to reconnect with yourself and relax after a long year.

Chiva Som is a famed wellness resort located on the sandy beaches of Hua Hin which recently reopened following a massive refurbishment. They offer a wealth of different holistic treatments and getaways for you to indulge in - you can even customise a bespoke package to address your different health and wellness needs. You're guaranteed to feel recharged, refreshed, and ready to take on a brand new year.
