The key to maintaining and caring for your hair is to identify your hair type and to use products that are suitable for you. Working with the specific needs of your hair is vital to keeping it healthy and most importantly, resilient. Apart from the strands that need much TLC, the scalp needs just as much attention too! Afterall, healthy and voluminous hair starts with a healthy scalp, right?
The appropriate shampoo for your hair type
There is a reason why there are so many products on the market. They're not all created alike. Identify your hair type to ensure that your hair care products are suitable and will work well for your hair. For example, if you find that your hair gets greasy throughout the day, get a shampoo that contains clarifying ingredients such as tea tree and chamomile. If your hair is dry and frizzy, look for moisturizing ingredients like butter and oils. Another important factor to note is to shampoo no more than once a day as it could strip your hair of its natural, essential oils.
Is conditioner even necessary?
Reinforcement is everything. Just like your facial creams, conditioners are like moisturizers for your hair. It is an essential step to keep your hair healthy and strong. To keep things simple, use a conditioner 1 to 2 times a week to replenish any oils or nutrients that your hair may need. If you have short hair, you can also opt for 2-in-1 shampoos that combine both shampoo and conditioner properties.
Keep it trim
Having split ends is inevitable. It can be caused by combing your hair, heat or lack of conditioning. However, it does not mean to say that you should leave it as it is. In order to maintain a head of healthy hair, you should make regular trips to the barber. By removing split ends, it will also help to minimise hair breakage and give you a healthier/fuller look.
A properly done scalp massage can increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, increase relaxation, decrease stress and boost the strength of the hair roots. It helps to create a good environment for hair growth and on the plus side, scalp massages can help to increase the production of serotonin, a chemical in your body that increases your mood too!
